On October 11 there was a dance for middle school. The dance was planned for Tok’s middle school home tournament, so there were lots of kids there. The entry fee was 5 dollars but many of them tried to get in without paying. Some of the students even climbed through the windows to get into the dance. The names of those people weren't shared with me, but we can just hope that they weren't students from our school! The middle school dance was quite wild, but they all seemed to have fun.
There were many students at the dance, some of them had fun and some of them didn't seem to have as much. Liahona, a sixth-grader basketball player at the dance, said the dance was pretty good, except that the music kept glitching out. Then she told me the best part was when, during one of the dances, all of the students got together holding hands in a circle and dancing. She also shared that the music wasn't the best because some of it was what she called “boring rap” that she never had heard of before.
Another student shared their experience, saying they had a good time at the dance. This student, Eric from 7th grade on Tok’s basketball team, was excited that he got to dance with Jocelyn Eriksen - another basketball player from the 7th grade. Eric then expressed that he would change nothing about the dance.
However, there were students who did not like the dance as much, like Maycie, Tasha, and Benjamin. Maycie said that the dance was boring and that she didn't like the music - but Maycie is known by her peers not to like dancing, so it may not be that surprising to those around her. Tasha agreed that the dance was boring and that was in agreement with Liahona, Benjamin, and Maycie in disliking the selection of music played. Benjamin, one of the other students who went to the dance, also noted that the dance was boring and that there wasn't much dancing.
These dance-goers also shared their favorite parts of the dance. Maycie said that her favorite part was when she asked the one in charge of the music to play “Fein” by Playboy Cardi and Travis Scott and they did; Emma - another 8th grader - also said that she liked that part. Eric said that he liked dancing with Jocelyn the best, and Emma said she liked dancing with Zac the most.
The middle school dance seemed like it worked out just fine, but still had lots of room for improvement. The music was controversial, and if people just danced more, everyone would have had more fun. If the middle schoolers take this into account for next year, hopefully, more people will enjoy the dance.
