Through January 16-18, both high school basketball teams went to Huslia to play against Effie, Huslia, Galena, and us, Tok. Tok boys got 2nd place and Tok girls got 1st place.
The teams had to leave at 4:00am on Thursday morning in order to catch a plane up to Huslia. Cheyanne Hipp, one of the girl basketball players, didn’t even sleep and waited until it was time for the girls to leave from Tok and slept on the ride. She liked the plane ride and liked the view of the mountain tops. She liked Huslia and even met some of her online friends. “7/10,” she said about the Huslia trip overall. “Personally, I could've done better, after I watched our live games,” she said about her in-game performance. She thinks the team needs to do better on defense and needs to do better on rebounds. She doesn’t feel like she is prepared for the home games; she said she needs to work on more things.
“Since the morning before that,” Ally Demit, one of the girls basketball players, said when I asked when she went to bed the night before the Huslia trip. “No, I mean yeah it was good” was her reaction when I asked how she liked the Huslia trip. The only thing she didn’t like was that there wasn’t much to do in Huslia. She also didn’t like “THE REZ STORE.” She thinks she played incredibly poorly in the last game she played. Ally thinks that the team should improve on rebounds and defense. She is ready for the home games as well, except she thinks both Nenana and Glennallen are “scawwy.” Ally asked me, Vaughn Arnold, one of the boys basketball players, how he thinks he did and he said, “Last game the team basically told me to do nothing, which kinda got me mad.”
Be ready for the Tok home games this weekend. News will be posted next week about the Tok home games.
