On December 19-21, 2024, sophomore, David McDermott went to The Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage to wrestle at The State Championship. He was the only one from Tok who qualified for state in the regional meet and traveled with his coach Mr. Hamner. David wrestled three matches before he was out of the tournament. David was the first wrestler to go to state since the early 2000s.
I interviewed David McDermott; these were the questions and the answers I reserved.
How was the trip to anchorage?
“It was good could have been better could have won more.”
How many matches did you wrestle and how much did you win?
“I had three matches i won one and lost two.”
What was your experience like at state wrestling?
“The competition steps up at state.”
What was the hardest match you played?
“Probably against the kid.”
What does it feel like to be the only wrestler going to state for Tok school?
“It felt good and a little boring because I had no one to talk to and a lot of waiting.”
How was the trip like overall?
“ It was fun a new experience and now I know what to expect next year.”
The state wrestling trip was a fun and rough experience at the state.
