Tok High School Travel Club

The Tok High School Travel Club, run by Deb Alsup, requested to visit Costa Rica at the end of the 2024 school year. There was a regional school board meeting on November 18th, 2024, where they declared that the trip was approved.

Tok High Schools Travel Club is only for the high school students in our region. There are only a few requirements to be in this club: you have to be eligible grade-wise, you have to work towards learning a foreign language, and you have to attend any and all Travel Club meetings. The Travel Club has the opportunity to pick a destination around the world at the beginning of the school year to learn about over the year. Whichever destination is picked, the club with learn basic knowledge of the area, learn of their culture, and study language basics. During the last week of the school year and the week following, Deb will take the Tok School Travel Club to the selected location and students in the club will be able to experience cultures and societies in person through hands-on experiences.

Many students who attend Tok School never had the chance to travel outside of the state of Alaska, or even their hometown for that matter. This club will allow students to travel and learn about new and unique cultures.

Rebekah Ames, a student helping Deb run the club, was asked about how excited she was for the upcoming trip to Costa Rica at the end of the year. Rebekah stated “I’m SOOOO excited!! There are going to be so many cool and fun activities and things we will be able to experience.”

If you would like to be a part of the Tok High School travel club, you will need to talk with Deb Alsup and she will fill you in on all information. Although there are no meetings planned yet, the meetings will most likely be once a week during GAP after school.
