Teacher Appreciation Week

This week, May 5th through May 9th is Teacher Appreciation Week. This annual celebration is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the contributions of educators. The purpose of this week is to show gratitude to educators for their dedication and hard work, acknowledging their role in shaping the future and impacting children's lives. This week is a special opportunity for others to reflect on educators' impact on students.

The high school science teacher, Adrian Suladay, was interviewed about his thoughts on Teacher Appreciation Week. I asked him about what expectations he may have for this week and he claimed, “It is my first time here experiencing Teacher Appreciation Week. I do not have any expectations but we do have a day dedicated to Teacher Appreciation in the Philippines so it is different here.”

When Mr. Su asked if he felt extra special this week, he asked, “What do you mean? I feel special all the time!” When asked what his favorite part was about this week he said, “The foods and snacks. The snack cart. All of my students participate by showing they appreciate me which is also my favorite.”

Finally, he was asked why he believes Teacher Appreciation Week is important and he said, “It is important to have this kind of celebration because it is one way to give appreciation to teachers and for the teachers to feel more motivated to teach well and continue their good work.”

The kindergarten teacher, Deb Alsup, was also interviewed about her opinions about Teacher Appreciation Week. When asked what she thinks about this week, she stated, “I think it makes all the teachers feel really good after a long hard year. The cinnamon rolls the student council made for the teachers was AMAZING.”

When asked if she feels extra special this week, she claimed, “Yes. I have had students bring me gifts and what the school district is doing really makes us feel appreciated.” She then was asked what her favorite part about this week was and she said, “Come on. The presents and the food! We all love presents and food.”

Finally, Mrs. Deb was asked why she believes Teacher Appreciation Week is important, she stated, “It is important because showing gratitude is an important habit for everyone to get into; it blesses the giver and the receiver.”

Make sure to show all of your appreciation towards our educators here in Tok, Alaska!
