As we all know, we have a new principal at Tok School. Who is she? Where does she come from? Why is she here? Well, I was pondering these questions too, so I decided to interview her. From hearing her responses I have found out that she, Mrs. Shotwell was a teacher in Texas for 20 years. Then she moved to Alaska and was a principal in another school for two years. That is when she moved to Tok and became our principal.
I then asked Mrs. Shotwell some other questions. First I asked her what her goals were for this year. “Academic growth for students in reading and math,” was her response. When I asked her if there was anything about the school that she would like to change, she responded by saying that she doesn't have anything right now that she would like to change, but that she might later on this year. Last, the question that we all have been wanting the answer to - the question of whether she will stay - finally has an answer; Mrs. Shotwell said that she will stay here anywhere from 2 to 10 years!
At the end of our conversation, I asked her if there was anything else that she would like to tell me. She told me that she felt very welcome here. She was surprised and appreciated all of the teachers, staff, and community who welcomed her. In the end, I believe I speak for the student body when I write that we are happy to have a principal! So welcome to Mrs. Shotwell, and thank you for working at our school.
