Annual elementary trip to Peterson Bay and Homer

The first-grade teacher, Ms. Sara is taking her first-grade class and three second-graders to Peterson Bay, which is a 45-minute boat ride from Holmer. I asked Ms. Sara some questions and this is her response.

Q: Where are you going?

A: We are traveling to Peterson Bay, which is across the bay from Homer. We will drive 500-plus miles and then we hop on a 45-minute boat ride to Peterson Bay.

Q: What do you plan on doing?

A: When we get to Peterson Bay 3 wonderful environmental educators will meet us at the dock. The two BIG activities we do are a forestry ecology hike and several tide-pooling adventures. The students get introduced to the many invertebrates found in the Kachemak Bay. We look at an archeological homesite and learn about the Native Americans who lived on Kachemak Bay long ago. We participate in an activity where the students learn about the 3 types of rocks.

Q: Do you plan on bringing another staff member?

A: 5 parent volunteers are going with me to help.

We wish them safe travels and hope they have fun.
