Tok School has hired two new staff members. One is from the Philippines, and the other is local. The one from the Philippines name is James Diputado and the one local is Kenneth White. They both work for Special Education programs.
Kenneth, or Kenny, previously worked in the special education department for three years and enjoyed working here, where he was an aide in the high school. He says, “Well I grew up in California and moved to Tok around 10 years ago. I don't see myself going anywhere else and I'll stay as long as the school will have me.” He notes that he likes working with the high school students, saying, “It gives me more opportunities, and it is never the same - every day it is always something different.”
James Diputado, who goes by Mr. James, says, “I wanted to [work in special education] because it is what I studied, and I wanted to see the kids progress despite their disabilities. Lastly, it’s fun and I find satisfaction in helping the kids.” Mr. James is originally from the Philippines and moved here from his home country. Before he moved, he was “working at a public school handling different grade levels of kindergarten to 6th.” When asked how long he will live here in Tok, he added that he isn’t sure. “[I] Haven’t decided but hoping for 6 or 7 years if given a chance.” He also expressed that he loves his career. He said, “I love working with them [his students], they are like my children and thirsty for love and care.” He loves to, “see their smiles” and enjoys seeing their improvements throughout the school year.
As of their responses, James and Kenneth like the special education job. Helping the students and seeing their smiles and improvements every day. They plan on staying as long as the Tok school will have them,so here’s hoping they will stay a long time.
