Snowtown success for Tok wrestling team

The Throwdown in Snowtown was the wrestlers' second tournament of the session, and there are far more to go. The throwdown was held in Valdez from October 25th to 26th. All the teams that went to the Throwdown in Snowtown were Hutchison, Colony, Wasilla, Valdez, and Tok. Waylon Nelson, a sophomore, placed 2nd in the 285 weight class. I interviewed some of the wrestlers that went to the Throwdown in Snowtown.

Sophomore Trey Hillary said, “It was pretty chill -saw Spencer, which was cool! - I felt like a cool person, you know, when I practiced with them. I got a whole lot of bruises and mat burns. The drive was boring but I slept most of the way there. I only won one match. I could've won two if I was smarter. We stayed at the school the whole time. We only ate inside the school.”

Sophomore Owen Gross replied, “We had fun, we wrestled, hung out, and talked. The practice with Valdez was good; they had a lot of experienced members and yeah. I won two matches. The drive was good, we had fun, some of us slept, talked, and played games. I’ve got plenty of bruises and no broken bones. The food was good and they gave us steak on the first day.”

Freshman Gabriel Lint said, “The trip was good. We went to the Subway.  Sadly I didn’t win any matches there, but I got a lot of bruises.”

Sophomore David McDermott replied, “The trip was mid. I could've won more but I got sloppy in some of the matches. The practice with Valdez was fun. They got me down a weight class, which was good. We learned some new moves, and I hurt my neck, and then Gabe fixed it for me. I won one and lost two... but technically lost three. The food there was delicious. I got one bruise and scrapes all over my knees.”

Sounds like the wrestlers had a lot of fun in Valdez! Their next match is in Anchorage this weekend.
